The Stroud SCT priorities will now be identified and set by people from local communities every 3 months.  Consultation with local people will be conducted in a variety of ways, including street surveys, local surgeries, incident reporting, parish council meetings, public meetings etc.  Issues of concern to communities will then be researched and presented to local people at meetings especially arranged to allow community representatives to discuss and identify the most serious.  From these 3 Urban and 3 Rural Priorities will be identified by public vote.

The Stroud Safer Communities Team will then engage with local people and other partners and agencies to plan how these issues can best be resolved and, what resources will be needed to effectively deal with them.

It is important that you let us know what concerns you in your community.  To become more effectively involved in this decision-making process, you are invited to become part of our Key Individual Network (KIN).  If you would like further information, please contact us using the form at the bottom of the page.

If you have questions about these issues, or have information regarding a possible solution to these problems, please use the contact form at the botton of this page to tell us how you can help, how we can contact you, or what we should prioritise and why.

Eastcombe Beavers

On 17th November, PCSO Hazel Pearson and PCSO Jess Milne went to Eastcombe Beavers and gave a talk on Stranger Danger and the work of PCSOs. They were given many activities to do and were also given pencils, puppets, balloons and stickers. We gave them a picture of 4 people and asked them who was the stranger. They also showed us how loudly they could shout 'NO!' if they were approached by a stranger.
The children had the opportunity to look around the Police car and hear the sirens much to their enjoyment.

Under 18's drink campaign

Police Launch Campaign To Warn Young People And Parents Of The Consequences Of Under Age Drinking

Teenager drinking alcohol.Police from the Cotswolds and Stroud Division of Gloucestershire Constabulary are running a campaign over the next few weeks to warn young people and parents of the consequences of under age drinking.

Sergeant John Skilling from the Schools Unit said, “During holiday periods and big events the Police see an increase of young people drinking alcohol and it is a sad fact that for some children this leads to them becoming involved in anti social behaviour.

“We want this campaign to warn these young people and their parents of the dangers associated with under age drinking. The implications can have a detrimental effect on those involved, not only by them becoming involved in criminal activity but also by putting their personal safety and health at risk.”

The campaign, which is targeted at 13 to 17-year-olds, will involve several different actions to combat and prevent underage drinking and associated anti social behaviour.

Officers from the Schools Unit will be giving talks in school about the proactive and robust methods that Gloucestershire Constabulary will be using over the Christmas period to deter under age drinking and anti social behaviour and what the pupils should expect if they are caught drinking alcohol.

Whilst patrolling Police Officers, PCSOs and Special Constables will be visiting areas where local youths are known to congregate and consume alcohol and will use their powers to confiscate any alcohol found.

As some under-age drinkers conceal alcohol in bottles labelled as soft drinks, officers are also equipped with alcohol-testing strips. The strips change colour when they come into contact with alcohol. If officers are suspicious, a few drops of the drink can be poured onto the strip and if no colour change shows, the drink can be safely enjoyed. Alcohol will be seized from anyone found drinking in these areas.

If alcohol is found they will also be taking the child’s details and a letter will be sent to their parents emphasising the personal safety message and dangers of their behaviour.

Children involved in alcohol-fuelled anti social behaviour also risk getting an Anti-Social Behaviour Order.

PCSO Colin Drewett from the Stroud Police Safer Community Team has helped establish the campaign, he said; “As well as offering a warning to young people about the consequences of drinking and anti social behaviour we also want to promote the different places and people that they can get information and support from, be this their parents, teachers, national charities, medical staff or their local policing team.

“We hope that this campaign encourages parents to talk to their children and to be more aware of what their youngsters could be involved in when they’re not supervised and also appeal to them to take a little more responsibility in ensuring the safety of their children.

“As parents we have more influence over our children than we probably realise. Our words and actions impact them in many ways every day and as such we urge parents to work with us and talk to their children about the consequences of alcohol consumption and to act as a role model with their own drinking.”

The Police will continue to run test purchase operations across the county to significantly reduce the amount of alcohol sold to under 18’s.

PCSO Drewett added, “Our Police Safer Community Teams (SCTs) have good relationships with their local licensees and we are keen to see this develop. By working together with can help stop illegal sales of alcohol.”

Police Safer Community Teams will also be publicising the ‘Don’t Buy For Under 18’s’ campaign, which aims to raise awareness of the problem of adults buying alcoholic drinks on behalf of underage drinkers, and highlights the penalties adults could face if caught.

Sergeant Skilling concluded, “We hope that our actions and our work with schools and parents will help to significantly reduce the number of young people drinking underage and becoming involved in anti-social behaviour.  Our priority is to ensure the safety and wellbeing of the county’s children.”

Stroud Safer Communities Team

Officers from Stroud Safer Communities Team have just confirmed the local SARA Policing Priorities for the Stroud Rural and Urban Areas for the forthcoming months. These priorities were agreed after consultation with local residents and Parish Councils to agree the prioritising of local policing resources to address community concerns. Our dedicated team of PC's and PCSO's are able to gain and address concerns via local consultation meetings and street surgeries in order to provide directed operations.

As a result of the latest SARA plan, 6 priorities have been raised which include Speeding in Bisley Village, Criminal Damage to Painswick Golf club and Criminal Damage within the Chalford Area. Sara plans also include Underage drinking in Stratford park and Elm Road playing field and street drinking in the vicinity of the Sub rooms.

Stroud Safer Communities Team are continuing to increase their community involvement and partnership work and welcome feedback via individuals and organisations via local Key Individual Networks (KINs) and Local Panel meetings.
