Stroud And Cotswold Police Continue Work To Help Residents Keep Their Homes Safe
Two more Police Community Support Officers (PCSOs) in the Stroud and Cotswold Division of Gloucestershire Police have completed training that will help them further advise residents about what actions they can take to protect their homes from thieves.
PCSO Michelle Dodd and PCSO Tanya White from the Stroud Safer Community Team (SCT) recently completed a distance learning training package that enables them to carry out a check of your home to identify simple but effective measures that can be taken to help reduce the opportunities for thieves.
In total 14 PCSOs in the Cotswold and Division can complete the surveys for local residents.
Inspector for the Stroud SCT, Paula Hannaford, said; “These surveys can make a significant difference to how people secure their homes and we’re pleased that Michelle and Tanya have completed the course.
“All of the officers in the SCT are dedicated to working with local residents to prevent crime and keep people safe from harm. It’s hoped that the advice given to residents, alongside the work the county’s Crime Reduction Officers do, will help further reduce crime in the area.”

Police Football Team Play Pulse FC
![]()
Police officers, PCSOs and support staff took to the football pitch in a match against a Stroud youth football team on Sunday April 18.
The police team saw officers and staff from across Stroud, Stonehouse, Dursley, and Cirencester play Pulse FM at Brimscombe Football Club.
The members of the police team gave up their free time for the match.
PC Mike Stanley, who captained the police team, said: "Although we lost 5 – 4 it was a really good game, and we’re hoping for a rematch at some stage.
“A few of our regular players weren’t able to play due to various issues like being stuck abroad as a result of the volcanic dust, but we have really good team spirit and so some players turned out at very short notice to make a squad of 16 on the day.
“Our hope is that by being involved in events like this we can build trust and respect between our organisation and young people in the community."

Multi-Agency Operation Launches To Tackle Littering And Criminal Damage In Stratford Park
Stroud police Safer Community Team (SCT) are running an operation, alongside their partner agencies, with the aim of reducing littering and damage in Stratford Park.
PCSO Gary Lynch said; “During my patrol of the park on Saturday April 17 I was disappointed to learn of a number of incidents in the park where someone had left litter and destroyed plants. A number of arrows were also found in the park near to the swan’s nests.
"Thankfully none of the swans appear to have been injured and it’s not known if there was an intention to cause them harm but we are still keen to learn who is responsible for this behaviour and would like to ask anyone who witnessed the incident to contact us.”
In response to these incidents the SCT are running a multi-agency operation in the area, in conjunction with Stroud District Council and the Wyevale team.
Operation Daily commenced on Monday April 19 and involves officers carrying out extra high visibility patrols in the 54-acre park. Fixed penalty fines will be issued to people who leave their rubbish lying around the park.
Police will also be monitoring the use of vehicles in the area as on a number of occasions cars have driven across borders and grass causing damage.
PCSO Lynch continued; “We are pleased to report that the first couple of days of the operation have seen no clear issues in the park. We are going to be continuing these patrols and our work with local residents, students at the college and local businesses to keep this lovely park tidy and safe for all those that use it.”

Neighbourhood Panel Member Gets Out On Foot Patrol With Local Policing Team
A Stroud neighbourhood panel member has been out on foot patrol with the local policing team to help identify potential community priorities.
Last week Annabel Richmond, a local resident who sits on the Neighbourhood Panel, took up an invitation from the Stroud Police Safer Community Team (SCT) to go out on foot patrol.
Annabel joined PCSO Gary Lynch on patrol in the Bowbridge and surrounding area in Stroud. Being a member of the community herself she was able to give a residents perspective on what are seen as concerns or potential issues within the Bowbridge Area.
A list of Annabel and Gary’s observations were recorded and the SCT will be working with the Neighbourhood Panel and partner agencies, such as the Stroud District Council, to take action to resolve the issues.
PCSO Lynch said “This has been a very valuable piece of foot patrol cementing relations with a fellow Neighbourhood Panel member and learning more about the community.
“I am grateful for the time Annabel has invested with me on patrol and look forward to working on further community focused actions with her and the other panel members in the future.”
Stroud SCT Combat Anti Social Behaviour By Displaying Creativity Of Local Youngsters
Stroud Police Safer Community Team (SCT), Young Gloucestershire and Stroud District Council have been taking a stance against anti social behaviour in the town by giving young people the chance to show off their creativity.
PCSO for the area Gary Lynch, Stroud District Council Neighbourhood Warden Tracy Young and Young Gloucestershire lead Kay Bunyan have been working together for some time examining new and innovative ways of working with, and listening to, young people to bring an end to anti social behaviour in the town.
As a result a project was created to encourage young people in the town to apply their creative energies into a controlled graffiti art project.
Around 30 young people from Stroud and Cashes Green have been involved in the 12 week project which taught them new art skills in order to visually interpret the themes of ‘saying no to anti social behaviour, drugs, underage drinking and noise pollution’.
The results of their hard work were displayed at the Whitminster Centre last Saturday, March 13.
PCSO Lynch said; “I was able to speak to a number of the artists about their interpretations of the themes and what they were hoping would develop from this project. It was fantastic to hear them all speak of how proud they were of their work and how pleased they were to be a part of the project.
“Projects like this can make a significant difference to the lives of young people by giving them something to get involved in and encouraging them to learn new skills. This in turn reduces the likelihood that they’ll get involved in anti social behaviour.

“I’d really like to extend thanks to Kay Bunyan and everyone at Young Gloucestershire, Eryn Cookson from the anti social behaviour team at Gloucestershire Constabulary for funding support and encouragement, Tracy Young, Stroud District Council Neighbourhood Warden Service, and Sergeant Ian Crook from the Stroud Safer Community Team for his constant and continued support of this initiative.”

Stroud Police Promote ‘Boredom Busters’ For Young People
Stroud Police are promoting ‘boredom busters’ for young people in the town.
Officers from the local Safer Community Team (SCT) have organised for a leaflet outlining all the events, clubs and activities that are available to young people to be distributed across the town.
The first issue of the leaflet is currently being delivered and is available from Stroud Town Council and also at Archway School.
PCSOs and Stroud District Council Neighbourhood Wardens will also offer the leaflet to young people they meet when out on patrol throughout the area.
The leaflet gives the details of local youth groups, uniformed groups such as the St Johns Ambulance and Sea Cadets, sports activities and art, dance and culture groups.
This is one of a number of initiatives that the SCT, in collaboration with their partner agencies, are carrying out to address anti social behaviour in the town. Activities and clubs like these can make a real difference in reducing anti social behaviour by giving young people an activity to get involved in.
