Berkeley Policing Team Update
Although we have lost the police station, we are pleased that residents are making use of the police post box situated outside the town hall. If you need to contact Terrie McVeigh or Mike Trebble, please use this facility - only police have access to this post box & it is totally confidential. We also have dedicated police surgeries where we are available for advice & these are taking place in the town hall between 1 & 2pm on the 8th, 16th, 20th and 29th December & 5th, 10th, 19th, & 26th January 2012. Also a reminder that our team will be out talking to residents of Berkeley on Friday 9th and 16th December this is in preparation for our next resident panel meeting where our panel set priorities for both Terrie and Mike to work on. If approached please take a minute to put your views over as this helps local policing in the town.
We are very pleased to report that incidents relating to crime have been particularly low in Berkeley during the period 18th October to 17th November 2011, however, scrap metal thefts continue in the Berkeley area & we ask you to report anything suspicious on 101 as soon as possible. On the matter of metal thefts, we are pleased to report than an arrest was made on a local person who was linked to the theft of lead from the roof at the former Vale of Berkeley College. We continue to experience a few problems relating to the night time economy at weekends in Salter Street and Lynch Road, however, even these incidents have dropped compared to the same period a month earlier.
A reminder that both Terrie and Mike are working on a priority which involves the use of bikes without lights on the highway during darkness. Advice and cautions are being delivered, however, the supply of lights are being are also being provided courtesy of Halfords to certain cyclists rather than a fine.
We have just recruited 8 new Junior Community Officers all from year 6 at Berkeley Primary School. The pupils will be working with PCSO Mike Trebble, PCSO Claire Nutland & PC Terrie McVeigh on a number of community projects right through until the Summer. The JCO's have a distinctive blue uniform and will certainly be noticable around Berkeley! If you have something in mind which would suit our officers to assist with such as litter picks - please contact the officers via the head teacher at Berkeley Primary School.
