Moorland - Linden Residents Association Meeting - Police Related Issues
Introduction to new area Inspector
Residents at the local Residents' Association had the opportunity to speak directly to the new area Inspector Craig Guthrie. Many questions were answered and concerns were raised including:-
The new 101 non emergency number
Residents were reminded that it costs 15p no matter how long the call and this was generally cheaper than the 0845 number which was priced at 7 per minute. Residents were advised when calling to ask for an incident number so that the call can be tracked and dealt with if there were to be any follow up work.
Parking speeding / issues
Other issues were discussed such as parking issues which will be passed on to the local council/highways dept. Alongside this residents were invited to work with PC Curtis and let him know the key areas and more importantly times, in order that speed monitoring could be put in place within the Moorland/Linden area with local residents and partners. PC Curtis will be arranging speed checks in the near future in area hot spots to monitor reports of excessive speed. Residents will be invited to come along with PC Curtis and monitor the traffic themselves including Frampton road and New Street.
Future commitment
Residents were told that we are in a time where resources are being stretched especially as the Olympics are on the horizon but we will are doing all we can to patrol the streets and reassure the public.
Operation Dazzle which targets cyclists without lights and riding on the pavement is continuing alongside high visibility patrols in the area.
Next Meeting
The chair advised that the next residents' meeting will be held on the Wednesday 1st March at 7.00pm at St Stephens Church. Residents who would like to raise any concerns or feedback on community issues are always welcome. The local police will, as usual do their best to attend.

A new Police information Point is being arranged at the Seymour Café every two weeks. PC Curtis and PCSO Asha Patel will be available for a chat over a tea or coffee. They will be there from 10.00am -11.00am from Tuesday 24th January.
Calton Junior School join school Police Information Point

Every second Tuesday of the month parents and children are invited into speak to PC Curtis or PCSO Patel after school about any concerns or just to have a chat. PC Curtis hopes that this will build stronger links with the children through to the parents and can develop into a strong method of communication to the local community. This is latest school to join other Moorland/Linden Primary Schools.

Theft from Motor vehicles – A member of the public rang in the early hours of the morning stating that there was a male trying car doors in the Moorland/Linden area. Police Come Together with Criminal Justice Partners for Sports and Fun Day in Gloucester

|
June 28 2011
Officers in Gloucester took part in a special fun day that aimed to use the power of sport to improve the relationship between the community and the criminal justice system.
Attractions at the ‘Let’s Come Together’ event at Gloucester Academy’s Estcourt Close campus included a climbing wall, 2-on-2 cage football and sumo suits!
Superintendent for Gloucester Gary Thompson said : “This was a great example of what can be achieved when local people get together with their local police.
“We are committed to working with our communities within Gloucester to ensure that we continue to develop new links and cement existing ones. This was an excellent event and I look forward to next year, when I’m sure the police will win the football!"
Teddy Burton, speaking on behalf of co-organisers The Gloucester Advisory and Support Panel (GASP), said: “An effective criminal justice service undoubtedly relies on the confidence and co-operation of the general public. Regrettably, the police and the communities they serve often only come in contact when there is a problem, sometimes in an atmosphere of great tension.
“This event really helped to promote community cohesion as well as build trust in the police and the Crown Prosecution Service.”
Vicky Cook, Deputy Chief Crown Prosecutor for the Crown Prosecution in the South West agreed: “It’s so important to us to work closely with community groups such as GASP and our criminal justice system partners to understand and address local crime concerns but, on a day like today, we can simply come together and enjoy the fun!”

Matson and Linden Monthly Advice
- Home Security Advice -
We would like to remind you about your home security. The amount of burglaries committed often increases during these difficult times, and we want to ensure that you are aware of what you can do to decrease the likelihood of you being affected by this crime.
- Set light timers if you are going to return home after dark
- Always lock doors and windows
- Use deadlocks/bolts/door chains, where fitted
- Never leave door/window keys in or around the door/window
These are simple examples, but may be the difference between being burgled, or not. Your local Police Community Support Officers are available to provide a free Crime Prevention Survey on you property, which will provide you with more useful information in relation to home security. You may also find some on useful advice from the following link.
Garages and sheds also need to be double checked to ensure that they are locked with good quality padlocks, and consider metal grates over the windows. It may be an idea to secure expensive items using security cable, or chains and padlocks.
