Police Appeal for Further Witnesses to a Sexual Assault in Innsworth

January 31, 2012

Police are reissuing their appeal for witnesses following sexual assault in Innsworth earlier in the month.

The incident happened at around 6.45pm on Thursday January 19.

A 16-year-old Gloucester girl was walking across the footbridge from Penrose Road to Evergreen Walk, which crosses the A40, when she was approached by a man wearing a balaclava.

The man, who was in dark coloured clothing, threatened, assaulted and indecently assaulted the girl, and stole her mobile phone.

Officers are trying to trace two people who were seen sitting on swings in the play area near to Evergreen Walk, they are then thought to have walked off in the direction of Paygrove Lane at around 6.40pm.

One was described as a white man or boy, aged between 15 and 20 with light coloured short hair.  He was wearing a light coloured hooded top with light coloured trousers or jeans.  The other was described as a white woman or girl, aged between 15 and 20, with long dark straight hair.  She was wearing a light coloured cardigan which was thigh length, over a light coloured top and denim shorts with dark tights.

Detective Sergeant Andy Dangerfield said: “We would urge these people to contact us immediately.  They may have seen the offender or have vital information that could help this investigation.

“They are not in any trouble we just need to speak to them about what they may have seen.

“We understand this is a worrying time for the community and I would like to take this opportunity to reassure local residents that we are doing all we can to bring the offender to justice.”

Anyone with any information about the incident is asked to contact Gloucestershire Police on 101, quoting incident number 354 of January 19.
