Body Found in River in Newnham

Police in Newnham-on-Severn searching for missing Polish man Wojciech Chwiecko have helped recover a body from the river in the village.

A member of the public reported the body in the water near a car park next to the A48 just before 7pm yesterday (Tuesday August 28).

The fire service and Severn Area Rescue Association recovered the body from the river.

Formal identification is yet to take place but officers are in the process of informing the family of Wojciech Chwiecko.

The man’s death is currently being treated as unexplained.

The coroner has been informed.
