Crime and Disorder Administrative Support Unit

The Crime & Disorder Act (CADA) 1998, statutorily brought together local authorities and the police to work in a concerted effort to reduce crime and disorder. Following the legislation, partnerships were set up in each of the six districts in Gloucestershire.

The aim of the partnerships is to 'bridge the gap' so that the police, the local authorities and the community can work together to identify, prioritise and solve problems such as drugs, fear of crime, youth issues and disorder, and overall quality of life.

The unit works to support the 6 district Crime & Disorder Partnerships in its principle aim to deliver the three year crime reduction strategies and annual delivery plans. The strategies set priority action areas for the partnerships to address and detail crime reduction targets for the next three years.

The six districts contain information on the partnerships at the following addresses:

The aim of the Crime And Disorder Administrative Support Unit is to improve community safety through a strong partnership approach to personal safety. The unit also deals with matters related to domestic violence, missing persons and race relations.

Some of the units activities include:

  • Membership of the 6 District Crime and Disorder Partnership's Executive and Strategic Groups.

  • Providing a range of support activities to assist the Community Safety Officers (CSOs) on an appropriate range of CADA issues, including overviews, best practice and development of initiatives.

  • Where appropriate, promoting and operating community safety initiatives in consultation, which are better suited to a countrywide approach.

  • Acting as a representative of the 6 district CSOs to reduce the need for their attendance at meetings and to feed back on county issues.

  • Acting as a focal point for the collection and distribution of data, information and details of best practice to the network of voluntary and statutory bodies that have a close interest in crime prevention matters.

  • Acting as a central purchasing agency for personal safety equipment for Neighbourhood Watch schemes, crime prevention panels and district crime reduction officers.

  • Organising the Junior Citizen scheme for schools in the county, to provide a practical way of teaching young people aged 10-11 to cope with everyday dangers safely and effectively, using stimulated situations and allowing them to recognise and deal with danger in a realistic way.

  • Assisting with the management of the Gloucester Young People of the Year initiative. A multi-agency initiative that promotes positive images of the young people of Gloucestershire and celebrates their achievements.

  • Supporting the County Drugs and Alcohol Action Team plans for tackling drugs and Alcohol issues.

  • Supporting the Gloucestershire Crimestoppers Board in promoting the Crimestoppers telephone number to facilitate information from the public on criminal behaviour.

  • Supporting Gloucestershire Crimebeat in its aim to involve young people in helping to cut local crime and reduce the fear of crime whilst also supporting victims of crime.

The partnership unit is committed to making Gloucestershire a safer and stronger place for everybody.
