Crime Reduction - BikeSafe logoBikeSafe is an initiative run by Police Forces around the United Kingdom who work with the whole of the biking world to help to lower the number of motorcycle rider casualties.

Police motorcyclists help members of the public become safer, more competent riders. They pass on knowledge, skills and experience and can help to increase ability and confidence, to get even more enjoyment from riding a motorcycle.

This year's BikeSafe event is held in collaboration with Avon and Somerset Police, click here to view more on this event.

Warwickshire Police hosted the event for 5 years at The Heritage Motor Museum and over 2,500 members of the public visited the event.

Then in 2005 it was Gloucestershire Constabulary's turn to be the host, which was continued for 2006 and 2007.

BikeSafe, the National launch was held at Hendon hosted by the Metropolitan Police Service and then moved to the Sheffield Arena this year, being hosted by South Yorkshire Police click here to view more on this event.

We assisted over 70 Police motorcyclists and carried out hundreds of assessed rides.

BikeSafe Castle Combe 2010 Event

This year the South West Region Police Forces are doing something a bit different. Following the success of the previous years event held at Haynes Motor Museum this year we are holding the event at Castle Combe Race Circuit near Chippenham in Wiltshire. Not only has the location moved but also the date, Saturday June 5th.

For this event we have hired the Castle Combe Circuit and all its facilities to provide participating riders the opportunity to ride around the circuit supervised by Castle Combe’s own riders for a 15 minute session after receiving a full safety briefing, but not before completing a one hour on road ride out with a Police Advanced Motorcyclist on a two to one basis.

To book for the event just print off the application form on the Avon & Somerset Police pages, (Pdf. file) and send it to the address within, complete with a cheque for £25. Riders will then be notified of their allocated time slot for the ride out and track session. It is important that all fields are completed fully. Spaces will be allocated on a first come first served basis.

There will be something for everyone, even if you’re not participating in the Police ride out and track experience, local motorcycle dealers including Artdeans, Bristol Kawasaki, Bristol Motorad, Fowlers Motorcycles, Riders Motorcycles, V&J Superbikes and others will be attending with a wide range of motorcycles on display, with clothing and accessories on sale. Free entry, spectators welcome.

The focus of the event remains the same as before, Road and Rider safety. The message is, that further rider training, post test, can dramatically reduce the risk of involvement in serious or fatal incidents and reduce insurance premiums. 2009 saw a significant reduction in rider fatalities over 2008 within the Gloucestershire force area but this number can be reduced further.

The Police ride out and track experience is open to any rider who holds a full motorcycle licence.

Due to strict legislation which Castle Combe Circuit must comply with, a noise limit of 105db applies to all bikes on the circuit.

To book please go to the Avon & Somerset Police booking form.

During the day we carried out over 270 assessed ride outs, 27 of those had a Gloucestershire postcode.
